The members of this very fun wedding party got ready for the big day at Provincetown’s Surfside. Sarah had her dress custom made. She purchased fabric for each of her bridesmaids and asked that they have a dress made in their home towns. Each of these amazing women had a dress that suited her personality perfectly. Sarah, trusting her friends completely, didn’t see their dresses until they were wearing them on the wedding day. Sarah and Nick exchanged vows and tied the knot at the water’s edge. Their talented friends supplied the music. The couple chose the Surf Club near MacMillion Pier for their reception. Beautiful toasts were made in English and French. They shared a wonderful meal with friends and family. They honored traditions of their families and came up with a few of their own. It was a lovely fun and elegant day.
Family and friends gathered in Provincetown, MA for Sarah and Nick’s three day wedding celebration. Sarah’s parents hosted a wonderfully fun and relaxed welcome dinner at their home. Guests from around the world ate, drank and danced into the night. Many were meeting for the first time and would become fast friends. The excitement and anticipation of the next day’s wedding filled the air.
I love photographing Signature Storybook Sessions. It’s an honor to photograph in someone’s home.
For many families the idea of family pictures is daunting. Somewhere along the line a horrible ideas spread…. If you’ve ever had a stressful portrait session you know them. Everyone has to look perfect, be dressed in identical outfits and be still and happy and the photographer will most likely be shouting to smile. When I opened my studio, I set out to break that mold. Our Signature Storybook sessions are designed to capture images that are relaxed, natural, authentic and narrative. I encourage my clients to be themselves. Often my clients choose to have their session in their own homes. It’s a wonderful opportunity to document daily life, the objects that create your environment and the space you call home.
The beauty of a Signature Storybook Session is that life doesn’t have to stop for photos. Quite the opposite! The family I’m sharing today is so much fun! It’s a house of smart quirky folks who know how to enjoy little things. Little A was just about to celebrate his first birthday when we photographed at the house. As you will see, he is going to be a voracious reader and has a big personality. Kate is a great cook. Dinner is an event when you have a curious almost-toddler. There’s this wonderful dance of kid + cooking that happens. This family does it well and this little guy might just be the next James Beard! Take a peak at the image of Gary and his son at the piano. It was a moment of kid-distraction while Kate was finishing dinner. So perfect. So relaxed. So very them.
Those simple interactions are the stuff of great memories.
There are so many possibilities for Signature Storybook Sessions. Here are just a few ideas… A visit from a favorite relative. A newborn session. Tubby time when you are small enough that your bath tub is the kitchen sink. Pancakes! A day when everyone is home at the same time! Go on a picnic and play on the swings. Play in the back yard. Go apple picking. Family dinner. Making a special family recipe. An anniversary session… grown ups deserve great photos too! Go on an ice cream adventure with Grandpa. What fun idea will you come up with for your Signature Storybook Session?
